Marilieke Engbers is programme director “Board Conversations and Decisionmaking" of the School of Management at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also teaches Strategic dialogue, speaking up and critical thinking at the Finance and Control programme of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Marilieke is the founder and partner of a management consulting firm ‘Het Consulaat’, an organization that develops and delivers incompany education programmes. She is also associate of Reconsulting a management consulting firm specialized in leadership development, cognition and communication, defensive routines, complex change processes and double loop learning, strategy deployment and reflection in action and theatrical interventions. She is active in all industries, in governmental agencies and ngo’s. Marilieke Engbers is also a PhD student and explores how the unsaid know shapes decision-making processes in boards.
Marilieke is a graduate in International Business Economics from the Maastricht University. She worked for Arthur Andersen for 5 years and specialized in change and learning processes. Together with a team of Arthur Andersen consultants she was asked to develop leadership programmes with a Swiss psychiatrist who taught them systems thinking. Action design, an institute in Boston affiliated with Chris Argyris taught her reflective action skills. Skill that helped her become a reflective practioner. After five years of working for Arthur Andersen, Marilieke with colleagues of Arthur Andersen, founded Het Consulaat. From 2000 on Marilieke was involved in change processes in a broad range of industries and, national and international organizations. In 2015 Marilieke decided to do a PhD on how the unsaid known shapes the decision-making process in boards and founded.
